“Upwind” with phoenix, fire theater, wind energy and magic forest
The Tollwood Winter Festival 2021 will take place from November 24 to December 23 at Munich’s Theresienwiese.
Following the festival motto “Upwind”, Tollwood prepares a platform for such projects and concepts that show what the transition to renewable energies can look like. How this is achievable in Bavaria today is illustrated by the environmental action venue “Schaltzentrale Windenergie” in the middle of the festival grounds.
This winter, the festival will be dominated by fire and light elements: whether with the fire theater of the renowned company „Die Flugträumer“, the fire performance of Andrea Salustri – both large-scale productions on the forecourt of the festival – or with the light painting of Irina Titova: every evening at nightfall, the festival grounds will be illuminated by fire art.
In the entrance area, visitors are greeted by the “Phoenix” by British artist Adam Stubley, a 12-meter-high firebird sculpture. A symbol of renewal, confidence and strength.
New this winter is theZauberwald, a wintry, Christmas-themed area with a 12-meter-high Christmas tree made of glitter balls adorning its center. Also new: four curling rinks, which, in line with the Tollwood philosophy, do not require electricity or water and promise an enjoyable winter experience.
At the Christmas-themed “Markt der Ideen”, Tollwood offers a wide variety of products from all over the world, from African drums to singing bowls to inventive upcycling products. Most of the goods offered are sustainably produced and fairly traded. Visitors can enjoy culinary delights with a clear conscience: The certified organic gastronomy invites you on a culinary journey around the world – from Indian street food to Tibetan momos (filled dumplings) and aromatic tajines.
Almost all events at the Tollwood Winter Festival – from live music in the Hexenkessel to the children’s program – take place with free admission. Part of the festival philosophy, after all, is that culture is accessible to everyone.
