Concert at Hacker-Pschorr Brettl
African electro beats meet folk music. Disco house meets Bavarian dialect. Rap meets traditional Bavarian songs. Crossing genre boundaries, breaking rules, breaking new ground “You can’t do that!” A phrase that constantly accompanies Monaco F in his now 25 years on stage. Already in 1992, as a 13-year-old, he was told in the Bavarian Forest, where he comes from: “Rap – that’s not possible!” That’s what they said when he was the first to rap consistently in Bavarian dialect. That was in 2005. With his band “Doppel D”.
In the meantime, that is no longer taboo. On the contrary: rapping in Bavarian is socially acceptable. Monaco F has played a big part in this. He was and is a musical free spirit. Whatever comes to him, whatever he likes, that’s what he does. The common thread in his music is himself, his thoughts, his feelings, his character, his view of the world. F still sits at the beer-glued beer table set and is sometimes celebrating intoxicatingly, sometimes grumbling critically, sometimes philosophising thoughtfully.
