As the sun sets over the Olympic Park, the amphitheater at the Tollwood Summer Festival becomes the new gathering place for Munich’s film fans. On July 2, the Tollwood Summer Cinema will present “Taxi Tehran,” a cinematic highlight, in a special festival atmosphere.

A taxi drives through the lively streets of Tehran. The taxi driver—none other than director Jafar Panahi himself—accompanies his various passengers for brief moments on their journeys. His passengers speak candidly about what’s on their minds. In his film “Taxi Tehran” (rated FSK 6), Jafar Panahi paints a tender portrait of the people in his homeland, skillfully blending social commentary with comedy. The winner of the 2015 Golden Bear demonstrates what cinema can achieve even under severe restrictions.
