Contemporary Dance at the Grand Chapiteau
Lewis Major Productions
Triptych
German premiere at the Grand Chapiteau
“Triptych is a triumph from start to finish.”
THE SCOTSMAN
There are evenings that you simply enjoy. And then there are those rare moments that leave a deep impression and linger in the mind for a long time.
TRIPTYCH is one of them.
In this multi-award-winning production by Australian choreographer Lewis Major, dance, music and light merge to create a world of overwhelming beauty. What unfolds on stage is far more than just a dance performance. It is a sensory experience that lifts the audience out of their everyday lives for 55 minutes and transports them into a space filled with wonder, poetry and emotion.
Three distinct parts – Prologue, Unfolding and Epilogue – unfold like chapters of a single great poem. Light becomes architecture. Music becomes movement. Bodies sketch fleeting images in the space, which vanish again in the next moment. At times the stage seems like a dream, at others like a force of nature. Then, from the slightest movement, a moment of touching humanity emerges.
Lewis Major is now regarded as one of the most exciting voices in international contemporary dance. His works have been performed on six continents and have won numerous prestigious awards. Among other accolades, *Triptych* won the award for Best Dance Production at the Sydney Fringe Festival, the Adelaide Fringe Festival and the FRINGE WORLD Festival, and has been delighting audiences and critics alike for years, from Australia to the UK and across Europe.
But perhaps the greatest strength of this production lies in the fact that it requires no prior knowledge whatsoever.
Lewis Major wants to help people overcome their shyness towards contemporary dance. His works do not tell their stories through complicated symbols or intellectual concepts. They speak directly to the senses. You can simply immerse yourself. Watch. Marvel. Feel.
An hour full of beauty that lingers long after the lights in the tent have come back on.
What can I say?
Even if, like me, you don’t know much about contemporary dance:
Go along!
Go and see it!
You won’t regret it!
