Pop, Jazz & Bossa
Saltyskin is reminiscent of the wild winds of South Africa, fruity fields full of orange groves, barefoot danced nights on Andalusian beaches, epic road trips along rocky coasts and longing dreams – Saltyskin carries the world beyond the seas of the wet and cold city lights. Laura (vocals, ukulele and piano) and Buck (vocals, guitar and violin) are “Saltyskin”. The two live in Munich and also have American/Spanish roots. The actress and the violin maker met in 2017 during a film project, wrote the soundtrack and founded the duo “Saltyskin” in Cape Town shortly afterwards. Their ethnically mixed origin and their gypsy existence are also reflected in their songs. Their music flies between jazz, bossa nova and (flamenco) pop and they tell the listener in English and Spanish about small, deep encounters and the big themes of life. Their lyrics are full of emotion, with which they juggle sometimes sarcastically and humorously, sometimes bluntly naked. The passion is omnipresent and takes the listener into melancholic depths and eccentric heights. Saltyskin affectionately opens up sound worlds that move somewhere between Norah Jones, Janis Joplin, Joao Gilberto and Angus&Julia Stone, but at the same time have something that is “completely new”. Double bass, drums, trumpet, saxophone and violin round off the songs, which also work wonderfully for two, in an exciting way.
